Founded in 1865 as a private technical school, today’s university of applied sciences boasts a number of famous alumni, such as automobile builders August Horch & Fritz Opel or the inventor of the PAL color television Walter Bruch. The campus features the Galgenberg, which was previously used as a place of execution. The unique feature of the location is the devil stones, which consist of the rare mineral cordierite gneiss. This material can only be found elsewhere in Cyprus.
