Lesse is one of the 31 districts of the district-free city of Salzgitter in Lower Saxony, located in the village of Nordwest. Lesse belonged to the district of Wolfenbüttel until 31 March 1942 and became part of the city of Watenstedt-Salzgitter by an administrative act on 1 April 1942. On January 23, 1951, it was officially renamed Salzgitter.
Lesse was first mentioned in a document in 1022. As early as 1400, the village consisted of 90 farms. In 1543, the village was attacked by Brunswick troops and completely destroyed. In 1529, 1597 and 1598, many inhabitants of Lesse fell victim to the plague.
