Until the beginning of the 11th century, Horbach was part of the parish of St. Lawrence and then of Richterich. From 1361 it was part of the Duchy of Gulik. It was not until the 15th century that the village got its own chapel, which was largely destroyed in the Eighty Years' War and rebuilt in 1632. In 1804 Horbach was elevated to the status of a parish together with Richterich. The population was 623 at the time. In 1972 Horbach joined Aachen.
