Kahler Asten is certainly the most famous mountain in the Sauerland, but just not the highest. The Kahler Asten is 842 m high and located between the villages of Alt- and Neuastenberg. The Kahler Asten is regularly mistakenly considered the highest mountain in North Rhine-Westphalia. However, that is the Langenberg, located on the border with Hesse. On the Kahler Asten there is a weather station and a watchtower. There are many winter sports opportunities around the mountain.
