Breyell is a borough of Nettetal, Germany. Before 1970, the town was an independent municipality together with Schaag. The ancient Celtic settlement (Celtic: Britogilum for "shining water") is first mentioned in writing in the 12th century.
Breyell was an important trading place in the Middle Ages. This was due to the favourable location of the place in relation to Cologne - 's-Hertogenbosch, Aachen - Nijmegen. Furthermore, the place was not far from old warehouses on the Maas (Ports of Tegelen/Steyl and Venlo). In the 16th century, the inhabitants of Breyell lived from agriculture and goods transport in addition to trade.
