The Historical Center of the city of Remscheid, organizationally connected to the German Tool Museum, is a local house of history. It takes over the tasks of the former city archive and the former local museum.
The oldest component of the Historical Center is the residence of the tool merchants Cleff. The charming exterior design of the representative building, constructed in 1778, combines stylistic features of bourgeois Rococo with the forms and the black-white-green color palette of Bergisch architecture.
