The Magdeburg transmitter is a transmitter tower built directly in the city of Magdeburg on the Lange Lake for the purpose of distributing DVB-T. At 160 metres high, the transmitter mast is Magdeburg's tallest structure. The transmitter tower supplies the entire Magdeburg city area and the surrounding area with digital terrestrial television. On May 31, 2016, the pilot operation of DVB-T2 HD programs began.
On 29 March 2017, the broadcasting of DVB-T programmes ended and regular operation of DVB-T2 HD began. Since then, the programmes of ARD, ZDF and the commercial offer of freenet TV have been broadcasting in the DVB-T2 standard in HEVC video coding and in Full HD resolution.
