The Weißenstein Monastery was a collegiate foundation established around 1137, from 1145 an Augustinian monk's monastery, before 1184 a monastery for monks and nuns, and before 1193 a purely nunnery near Kassel. It was under the protection of the Archbishop's Seat in Mainz or that of St. Martin. Before its dissolution, monks had moved back into the monastery. It was located at the site of today's Wilhelmshöhe Palace.
