The Kolkturm stands on the Kolkturmberg, which is named after him. The 15.5-metre-high structure was built in 1976 and restored in 1997. Its exposed location allows a view of the city of Halle and as far as the Saalekreis and the Mansfelder Land on its top.
The Kolkturm is already the third observation tower on the Kolkturmberg or in the immediate vicinity. In 1880, the Hallesche Kolkgesellschaft erected a wooden structure, which was demolished in 1921 after severe damage by vandalism. In the 1930s, a second wooden tower was built on the nearby Schwarzer Berg. After about 30 years of standing, it also had to be demolished due to dilapidation. On the site of the first tower, the construction that still exists today was finally erected by the municipal Reichsbahn repair shop.
