The residential building at Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 77 is a listed building in the Bachviertel district of Leipzig, located on the left side of the street when driving from Westplatz towards Waldplatz, behind the recently uncovered Elstermühlgraben or along the waterfront promenade known as Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Straße. The building was constructed by Arwed Roßbach and during its inception in the 19th century was incorrectly referred to as Villa d'Avignon, as the client was the merchant Louis Davignon.
In 1863, the Gohlis resident Anton Schauer acquired the property and began constructing a two-story residential building there in 1864. By 1880, it passed to the wealthy Leipzig merchant August Louis Davignon. Davignon commissioned the Leipzig architect Arwed Roßbach to convert the residential building into a villa. In fact, this was not a conversion but rather the demolition of Schauer's residential building followed by the construction of a new building.
