The Lichtenberg-Gymnasium Cuxhaven is a general education grammar school in Cuxhaven with 538 pupils. Since 1986, the school has been named after Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, the first German professor of experimental physics and founder of the German-language aphorism.
In 1817, the "Ritzebüttel Girls' School" was founded by the Cuxhaven bailiff Amandus Abendroth. The location was the Nachtigallsche Haus, Am Vorwerk 1, where the school was located until 1898. In 1849, Cuxhaven citizens founded their own private "Cuxhaven Girls' School". This remained independent until 1881, when it was integrated into the Cuxhaven community school run by Rector Hahn together with the Ritzebüttel girls' school.
