The Leineweber monument, along with the Sparrenburg, is one of the most important landmarks of the city of Bielefeld. It is located east of the Old Town's Nicolaikirche in the Old Town Church Park. It was created in 1909 by the sculptor Hans Perathoner, who had been leading the sculpture class at the Handicrafts and Arts and Crafts School in Bielefeld since 1907. It was inaugurated on July 16, 1909, just like the County monument in Jöllenbeck, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the County of Ravensberg.
