The Haard is a forested, 55 km² mountain range in Germany, state of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the northern edge of the Ruhr area. The name is possibly Old Germanic and has the same origin as that of the Harz and Haardt mountains.
The fireplace is part of the Hohe Mark Nature Park. The Hohe Mark in the narrower sense is a nearby, similar ridge, but north of the Lippe, in and around Haltern am See.
