The Kickley House was built by Otto Hoesch, a member of the Düren industrial family Hoesch in Rath, according to plans by Paul Darius, and used as a weekend residence. After the death of Otto Hoesch in the mid-1960s, the estate was offered for sale. In the early 1970s, Jean Löring, a former footballer, entrepreneur, and president of the SC Fortuna Köln football club, acquired the castle-like Kickley House. During Löring's time, the estate was used for representative purposes and gained a certain fame due to the numerous prominent guests and events.
