Liebenwerda Castle or Liebenwerda Castle in present-day Bad Liebenwerda was built around the beginning of the 13th century and, after several fires and reconstructions, existed until the end of the 19th century. It was built as part of the East German colony along with other castles on the course of the Black Elster.
The date of construction of the castle has not yet been scientifically proven. It was probably built at the same time as the preserved keep around 1207 at the time of the country's expansion, also known as the German Eastern Colony. Within a few decades, six more castles were built in Mückenberg, Elsterwerda, Saathain, Werdenhain, Wahrenbrück and Uebigau on the left bank of the Black Elster, which had similar or identical towers.
