The lock house Prösen is located on the Elsterwerda-Grödel raft canal, which was opened in 1748. Once, there was an old house thatched with straw, where the lockkeeper lived. His task was to carry out the locking process. This procedure took twelve minutes.
Along the 21 km long canal, there were four locks because a height difference of 2.744 m had to be overcome. The lock chambers, bordered by squared stones, are still visible, while the old wooden lock gates have long since disappeared. However, in June 1993, the restoration of the lock began in the form of the two new lock gates.
