Neuwerk belongs to the village of Höhlenort Rübeland in the town of Oberharz am Brocken in the district of Harz in Saxony-Anhalt.
Characteristic of the image of the village are both the houses built on the slope of the Bode valley, as well as the striking tower of the former village school with its historic clockwork. The former importance of the mining town is evidenced today by the hut square with old hut buildings and the many ditches for the use of hydropower. Some of these ditches have been made usable again in the recent past and are now being used again to generate electricity with the help of hydropower. Another special feature is the highest railway viaduct in northern Germany in the Kreuztal.
