The place with around 100 inhabitants is located in the east of the island, about one kilometer from the Baltic Sea in a straight line and three kilometers from the main town of Burg auf Fehmarn. There is a campsite with about 450 pitches at Klausdorfer Strand.
Local supply is secured by a farm shop in the village, which is connected to a café. For local public transport, there is the community bus that connects Klausdorf with the neighboring towns. The 1055-meter-long Baltic Sea Coastal Route runs through the village. The wreck of a schooner and the seagrass areas are a popular diving spot. Surfcasting is practiced at the steep coastline.
