Nochten, Upper Sorbian, is the northernmost and largest district of the eastern Saxon municipality of Boxberg/O.L. in the Görlitz district. The church village of Nochten, located in the Lusatian brown coal district and in the Sorbian settlement area, is described by the Weißwasser rector Robert Pohl in his 1924 published local history book of the Rothenburg O.-L. district as “a true child of the heath.”
The street village of Nochten is surrounded by the Nochten open-cast mine in the north and west and the Boxberg power plant in the southwest. Northeastern of the locality, on a renaturalized part of the open-cast mine, is the Nochten boulder park.
