It is located in Ahlen's city centre, opposite St. Mary's Church, on Marienplatz, the former chicken market. Opened in 1984, the museum in the Goldsmiths' House is one of the few museums in the world that displays exhibits from the Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian and Islamic religions as well as historical timekeeping technology. It emerged from Studio 18, founded in 1964 by master goldsmith Werner Fischer.
