The Altenberger Pinge is a Pinge located in Altenberg, in the Eastern Ore Mountains, formed by the Zinnstein mining operation. The main quarry took place in 1620. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Pinge had an area of only about 2.5 hectares. Especially from about 1976 onwards, it was considerably expanded by intensive ore mining. Today, it has an average diameter of 400 m, a depth of about 130 m and an area of about 12 hectares.
The Pinge and some associated mining facilities are part of the mining region of the Ore Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2006, it was named one of the 77 most important national geotopes.
