The House of Lohn is one of the most significant landmarks of Südlohn. The current building was constructed in the early classical style in 1785. The manor and other buildings are surrounded by a moat fed by the Schlinge.
The origins of the House of Lohn are not definitively clarified. In 1357, members of the noble family associated with the Lords of Dornoke or Dornick, known as Loneken, are mentioned for the first time as representatives of a noble family that lived in the estate capable of holding a seat in the state parliament, located 500 meters east of the estate Pröbsting . Around the year 1500, Johann von Dornick changed his name and referred to himself only as “von Lohn.” The House of Lohn held co-patronage rights at the Südlohner church. Members of the von Lohn family had the right to be buried in the choir area of the church after their death.
