Prince-Bishop Otto III, Count of Rietberg (1301-1306), had the Füchteln mill built as a state mill. It belonged to the moated castle of Haus Füchteln, which was the ancestral seat of the Knights of Kukelshem.
Füchtelner Mühle
With the development of the Ruhr area in the 19th century, the watermill was also used as a sawmill.
In the course of the expansion of the Stever, the Gelsenkirchen waterworks bought the old mill dam right to the Füchtelner mill, including the existing facilities. In 1992, a residential building and a hydroelectric power plant were built in the old buildings. Nearby, opposite is the Landhaus Füchtelner Mühle Restaurant and Café (Kökelsumer Straße 66; 59399 Olfen).
