The Bat Castle Weissig is located near the Saxon Hermsdorf on the upper reaches of the Spree and on the edge of the Driewitz-Milkeler Heiden forest area. Weissig, at the edge of which the castle lies, is about one kilometer from Hermsdorf.
The oldest document dates back to 1469, when the place is mentioned as "Weissigke". The nearby Eichberg was the site of a significant battle. On May 19, 1813, a battle took place between Russian-Prussian allies and the soldiers of Napoleon. Over 1,700 soldiers of the York Corps and 2,000 French soldiers fell during this battle. In 1913, exactly 100 years later, a memorial was inaugurated at the site of the battle.
