The Lüneburg Lock is the planned new construction of a sluice lock next to the existing Lüneburg Ship Lift on the Elbe Side Canal. It is to have a lock chamber with a usable length of 225 meters and a width of 12.5 meters. As with the lift, the drop height will be 38 meters.
During the construction of the Elbe Side Canal, the height difference of 61 meters between the water level of the Mittelland Canal and the reservoir of the Elbe above Geesthacht had to be overcome. For this purpose, the Uelzen Lock and the Lüneburg Ship Lift were built as descent structures.
