Carl Mertens International GmbH is a company in the cutlery industry based in Solingen. It manufactures high-quality kitchen and cooking knives as well as designer cutlery and table culture accessories.
Carl Mertens founded the company in 1919 in Solingen as a small supplier business that sharpened pocket knife blades and produced handles for table and kitchen knives. In 1932, a manufacturing facility for table cutlery was established. In 1934, Curt Mertens, the son of the company founder, took over the management of the company. During World War II, production came to a standstill and was only resumed in 1946/47. During this time, the gradual relocation of production from Beckmannstraße to Krahenhöher Weg also took place, which was completed in 1953.
