Description by the author

Following an important part of the Salt Trail from Lauenburg - Lübeck along the Stecknitz Canal (now Elbe-Lübeck Canal). The transport of salt was an important trade between Lüneburg and Lübeck. Since 1398 it was possible to transport the salt by water. For this purpose the Stecknitz Canal (now Elbe-Lübeck Canal) was built, one of the oldest artificial waterways of Europe. It took about 20 days to transport the salt.
