The asparagus tour will be signposted until the 2024 season. The tour takes place in the area of the city of Nienburg/Weser and the Samtgemeinde Heemsen. A connecting route offers the possibility to shorten the route and ride two loops (north route approx. 31 km, south route approx. 21 km). The tour can be started from anywhere. One possible starting point is the Lower Saxony Asparagus Museum in Nienburg. The asparagus fields already shape the landscape from March onwards, and even after the harvest, they can be recognized on the green plants with red berries well into autumn. Along the route through the flat Wesermarsch, eight information boards provide information about the asparagus plant, its origin, cultivation and harvest, its medicinal properties, its status as a luxury vegetable, the eating culture, and the significance of asparagus for the Nienburg region. The route is signposted with the logo Nienburg Asparagus.Interesting places lie along the way: Heemsen with its church, Anderten, the asparagus village Haßbergen with the Old Chapel, Rohrsen, Drakenburg with the old village, the church, the Weser Renaissance archway, and the Weser weir, and of course the district town of Nienburg/Weser, the economic and cultural center of the Middle Weser region. Here, there is an interesting museum landscape and a beautiful old town with historic half-timbered and Weser Renaissance buildings. Retail stores, restaurants, and cafes invite you to linger.Nienburg asparagus and Lower Saxony Asparagus MuseumLower Saxony is asparagus country.
