Salt & Castles

From the Diekturm, a mighty bulwark on the edge of Einbeck, it goes to Rotenkirchen. The place is characterized by Burg Grubenhagen, of which the castle building and the cavalier's house still stand on the street. A detour to the ruins of Burg Grubenhagen is worthwhile due to the beautiful view. Passing the recreational area Ahlsburg, you will reach the saline of the same name near Sülbeck. Salt was boiled here until the 1950s, and the industrial monument can be visited by appointment.
Passing through Salzderhelden with the water retention basin, you will pass through a 1,000 hectare bird and nature reserve, the Leinepolder. At seven points in the polder, audio stations provide information on topics related to the polder and the resting bird species. In the middle of the area lies another special feature, a salt dome from which salty water emerges. The village of Salzderhelden was also known in the past for salt extraction and as a salt bath. On the way back to Einbeck, you will come to Heldenburg. The castle, built of light-colored limestone, is well preserved and can be visited. You should definitely dare to climb up and enjoy the view of the Leine Valley.
