Barley
Spring barley and winter barley are the most cultivated cereal type in Denmark. Barley is mainly used for animal feed and beer production. It is easily recognized by the long stacks - the long "hairs" that sit on the spike at the top of the barley plant.
Rye
In Denmark, rye is only cultivated to a lesser extent and often on sandy soils. Rye has a gray-green color until it ripens. The stacks - or "hairs" on the spike at the top of the plant are short. Rye is used for feed and rye bread.
Oats
In the past, a lot of oats was grown as feed for horses. Immature oats are recognized by their dark green color and the spikes that sit like small bells at the top of the plant. Oats are used for feed, oatmeal, muesli, etc.
Rapeseed
Rapeseed is easy to recognize by its yellow color when it blooms. The rapeseed plant can grow over 2 meters tall. Oil is extracted from the small black seeds of rapeseed, which is used for cooking oil, paint, and varnish. The oil can also be used as fuel for cars and tractors.
Peas
The pea plant with its tendrils is known from the vegetable garden, where the pod, which is the fruit of the pea, can be enjoyed fresh in the summer. Like clover, it is capable of fixing nitrogen from the air. Peas are grown both for canned products and for feed.
