The city gate Puerta Cijara is part of the eastern flank of the city wall of Ronda .
Due to its geographical features, Ronda has always been a strategic enclave, reaching its most extensive walls during the period of Moorish rule. The boundaries of the Islamic medina were the Guadalevín Gorge to the north and the city walls to the south, east and west.
This part, the eastern walls, are the most important of the city walls .
