This church stands on the remains of a Spanish-Islamic fortress from the Almohad period. In the 14th century , the fortress became a collegiate church.
Later in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, six chapels were added , three on each side wall of the nave, with their respective Renaissance and Baroque styles.
The facade was built in the 18th century. the facade is flanked by paired columns and the image of the patron saint is on the corniche.
In this church there are several elements such as the altarpiece by the sculptor Anton Vazquez. It is an example of Spanish art with Flemish influence from the first half of the sixteenth century. Also noteworthy are the Ayflones Chapel with an excellent Plateresque altarpiece and the image of the Divina Pastora attributed to La Roldana,
