The Archaeological Museum of Córdoba is located in the old palace of the Páez de Castillejo family and in a new annex.
During the confiscations undertaken by the various Spanish governments in the first half of the 19th century , a large number of works of art and archaeological material was collected. Time and again , the collections were moved from one place to another in the city because of their constant growth .
Some 33,500 inventoried pieces are kept in the museum , ranging from prehistoric times to the late Middle Ages . These pieces are remarkable for their quantity and quality as well as for their state of preservation and their unique character.
