Description

The Torre del Homenaje (Homage Tower) is the monument in the best condition of the Nasrid Castle. It is located on the highest part of the Peñón de Zahara de la Sierra, 605 meters above sea level.

The tower is practically square (12 x 12.60 metres). It consists of two floors and a roof terrace . The interior of both floors is divided into four compartments each, through segmental arches that intersect to form these spaces, which are in turn covered by vaulted ceilings.

An Islamic cistern has been discovered under the Torre del Homenaje.

The tower can be climbed and offers a view of Zahara, the reservoir and some nearby villages, such as Algodonales and Olvera.
