New Square - Iznájar - Andalusia

It was in this square that the first social movements in the province of Córdoba emerged.

On June 28, 1861, under the leadership of Rafael Pérez del Álamo, six hundred day laborers called for social and economic improvements and the distribution of land, shouting "Long live the Republic and long live the Queen!".

The day in the city was spent in encouragement and preparation for expanding the revolution; They were armed with their weapons and in their saddlebags some bread and cheese, giving rise to the name of the revolt: "The War of Bread and Cheese".

When the revolt ended, the consequences in that city were severe, very severe, for many, if not hundreds, were arrested as almost a thousand people had rioted.

This revolt lasted barely a week but had great repercussions because Queen Isabel II visited Andalusia and in 1862 pardoned all the prisoners of this revolt and allowed the combatants to return to their families to gain their freedom and work.
