The Château de Cherveux is located in the municipality of Cherveux in the Deux-Sèvres department. It has been classified as a historical monument since September 16, 1929. Originally, it was a simple feudal mound. Cherveux is mentioned in 1100 as a dependency of the Abbey of Saint-Maixent. It then passed into the hands of the Lusignan family and became a fortress. The house of Lusignan gained power as early as the High Middle Ages, allowing Guy de Lusignan to ascend to the thrones of Cyprus and Jerusalem - the island conquered by Richard the Lionheart in the early 12th century.
