The Palais de Justice of Metz is located in the former Palace of the Governor of the Province of the Three Bishoprics. It has retained a somewhat austere and majestic appearance, and a decoration symbolising military power, such as the trophies and deities Mars and Minerva, god and goddess of war in Roman mythology. From here La Fayette left in 1775 to fight for the independence of the United States of America.
