The wash-house "the fountain" was on the original bed of the Dead Spoil. Built in 1882 on the property of Sieur Fournie, it was, at the time, a private wash-house. However, the municipal council considered this building to be of public utility and, after a favourable opinion from the prefect, declared it a communal wash-house. This in order to be able to carry out the necessary repairs and maintenance.
