Saint-Germain-l?Auxerrois church, founded in Merovingian times, has undergone numerous destructions and reconstructions. Additions were made between the 11th and 13th centuries, with work in the 12th century. The choir and Virgin Chapel date from the 14th century, the nave and porch from the following century, and the transept and choir chapels from the 16th century. Opposite the Musée du Louvre, this church bears the marks of its tumultuous past, particularly during the St. Bartholomew's Day.
