Description

Legend has it that in 451 Attila stopped at the Roman camp at Bar-sur-Aube and fell under the spell of the virgin Germaine .

Attila allegedly asked her to marry him, but she refused because she had taken a vow of chastity... Attila then cut off her head! Germaine was canonized and gave her name to the hill where she was tortured. A chapel was erected at the top of the hill to honor her memory.
