"Here lie three FFI nurses tortured by the Germans at the Château de Saulles for refusing to betray the Bussières maquis - Died for France - September 12 1944 - Pray for them".
On the evening of September 11, a group of German soldiers burst into the Château de Saulles (Haute-Marne), a village near Bussières-les-Belmont, and tortured and executed the three nurses present in the rescue center, who had joined the FFI the previous day.
