Calvary erected "in devotion to Jacques Riandet and Gabrielle Pitollet, his wife". The Riandet family is typically Aubigny, as is the Pittolet family. Jacques was nicknamed "the youngest" because his uncle "the eldest" and his father "the youngest" were also called Jacques, all of them winegrowers in Aubigny! The couple were married in Montsaugeon, cheflieu de canton during the French Revolution, on Pluviôse 10, Year VII of the French Republic, One and Indivisible (January 29, 1799). It is likely that this calvary was built after the Concordat, an agreement signed on 26 Messidor An IX (July 15 1801) by the 1st Consul Bonaparte and Pope Pius VII for the re-establishment of the Catholic, Apostolic and Roman religion in France.
