Created in 1920, the Pierrepont cemetery became a national necropolis in 1923 when bodies exhumed from certain military cemeteries in Meurthe et Moselle and Meuse were grouped together.
The imposing lantern of the dead, erected in memory of the Heroes who fell in the battle of Pierrepont on 22 and 23 August 1914, was inaugurated on 18/09/1932.
In the necropolis lie 3758 soldiers:
War 14-18: 3045 French, 141 Belgian, 2 British, 1 Romanian, 493 Russian.
War 39/45: 20 French soldiers, 55 Soviets, 1 Czech.
