This ornamental granite fountain, known as the "Quinault Fountain", consists of a circular basin and a high central hexagonal pedestal, bearing a stone bust of the lyric poet Philippe Quinault. Musical instruments and laurel wreaths carved on the column recall the artistic career of Quinault, protégé of playwright Tristan L'Hermite and collaborator of Lully.
Solemnly inaugurated in 1852 in memory of a supposed local boy, the mayor of Felletin was surprised to discover that Philippe Quinault had no connection with Felletin. A misinterpretation of the archives had perpetuated this misunderstanding all this time?
