All that remains of the former Saint-Médard abbey is the pre-Romanesque crypt, the oldest monument in Soissons, dating from the 9th century. Comprising a dozen chapels served by a central corridor, it housed the tomb of the bishop Saint-Médard, as well as those of Clotaire and Sigebert, son and grandson of Clovis. Guided tours are organized throughout the year, notably on Saturday afternoons at 2.30pm (every day in July and August). Bookings at the Soissonnais-Valois Tourist Office or at the CIAP at Saint-Jean des Vignes Abbey.
