"La nasso del Gral", Trabès dé Sagno morto..." These ancient names, evoke the peat bogs.... Tradition gives the pond a seigniorial origin with the creation of a peschio or fish pond and reports that a conflict arose in the 13th century between the lord owners and the winegrowers who, according to a belief well anchored at the time, accused the ponds of Mount Lozere of attracting storms and hail on their crops. In 1882, these lands were bought by Doctor Barrandon.
Currently, the pond located in the heart of the Cévennes National Park is labelled European charter of sustainable tourism. Only part of the lake is open to fishing. The pond is joined by a 3km dirt track crossing the forest and starting from the village of Laubies.
