LA CHAPELLE SAINT-FLORENT

Description

Situated on the shores of Lac de Longemer, the little chapel was built around 1449 by the Chanoinesses de Remiremont to perpetuate the memory of Bilon, an officer of Gérard d?Alsace who became a hermit and lived in 1056 at a place still known today as "la butte Bilon". Having fallen into ruin, it was rebuilt in 1727 and dedicated to Saint-Florent by a bishop of Strasbourg.
Opened to the public on Heritage Days, the hermit?s bones are on display.
