Gunsbach, a village of 920 inhabitants, dates back to 1278, its name evoking a marshy stream or associated with a man named Guno. It was linked to the Hattstatt family and then to the Ribeaupierre family. World-famous thanks to Dr Albert Schweitzer, his house is now a museum visited by thousands of people every year. Attractions include the simultaneous church, the town hall dating from 1570, the former presbytery and the monument dedicated to Albert Schweitzer. Among the attractions, the Albert Schweitzer trail, the water walk and the African museum are must-sees to understand the legacy of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.
