Founded in 1832 and listed as a "Historic Café of Europe", the Café Parisien is located right in the centre of town, between the Town Hall, the François Pompon Museum and the Romanesque Basilica of Saint-Andoche. Its ashlar and marble façade is listed in the Inventaire des Bâtiments de France, and the interior spaces have been miraculously preserved, earning it the respectable and enviable title of "Oldest Café in Burgundy".
Since its creation, "Le Parisien" has been the lively centre of the town, with its billiard rooms, card rooms and meeting rooms... Once frequented by sculptor François Pompon, chef Alexandre Dumaine, engineer Jean Bertin (inventor of the turbo-train), writer Jean Genet and, more recently, cartoonist Roland Topor and chef Bernard Loiseau, it has remained a meeting place for people from all walks of life.
Today it boasts a restaurant serving regional and family cuisine, and a home-cooked set menu from Monday to Friday lunchtime (€16.50 and €20.00 full menu). The Café Parisien continues this tradition of 'drinking well, eating well and living well'. It has become a meeting place for local musicians, artists and lovers of art and good food, in a relaxed and simple atmosphere. Its brasserie-style dining room can accommodate large family and friends gatherings, as well as groups and associations. Don't hesitate to ask.
