THEATRE, Mirecourt
It is difficult to imagine that the theatre of Mirecourt, was one of the most important of the Vosges by its size and beauty ... Its construction is also quite original because the first auditorium was built in 1824 in the former convent chapel and chapter house of the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre-Dame.
The auditorium was then completely restored in 1857 in its present layout of "Italian style theatre", with two balconies, a henhouse and a capacity of 450 seats. Closed in 1950, the theatre was left in the state it was in and is rapidly deteriorating. It was saved from demolition thanks to the action of local associations and classified MH by Jack Lang in 1989. Restoration work and a subscription to the Fondation du Patrimoine is underway.
